How do I replace 'slider' closet doors with bi-fold doors
l have regular (not walk-in) bedroom closets with sliding closet doors, the
kind that means you can only see 1/2 the closet at any one time). l wanna
replace them with bi-fold doors so l can open both up and see the entire
contents of the closet at once! The answer might be obvious
however the size of my closets are not standard. When l shop around,
bi-fold doors come in set sizes (e.g. 46 60 72''), yet my closet is a
non-standard width meaning doors that l buy will be too wide or too narrow. l feel like my options are to change the width of the closet by re-doing the edges of the drywall or to have custom doors built. l was hoping there was a good way to avoid doing either of them. Just hoping. PS I am a woman but very handy so will probaby do it myself if l can.
I had two odd sized doors, so I bought two different sizes of
bifold doors, and put half of each together (so.one side from one, and the
other side from the other).
That gave me very close to the size I needed, and I could just use a
little trim to make it fit properly.
The only drawback is that you cannot use the slide rail at the top - will not work unless both sides are the same.
I trim down bi-fold doors all the time. You can trim the
bottom and insert a new bottom piece. I am sure you could do the same for
the side.
What you need to do is buy a set of doors that is close to the size you
need and trim them to fit.
